Frustrated with the changes brought on through this leadership change, the writers and photographers unionized in 1998, joining the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (Local 115-A) and the Graphic Communications International Union (Local 34-M), respectively. On May 1, 2000, supporters visited major airports across Canada to distribute leaflets and buttons to travelers, asking them to boycott the National Post.
