<text>The photographs displayed here show Jim and Mary's first residence after they arrived in Chongqing. They lived at Duckling Pond, a small hamlet across the Yangtze River from the city, with their college friends from Toronto, Harold and Donalda Swann. The house was a large, grey brick structure surrounded by a compound wall and featured a fireplace in every room.

These photographs were developed by Mary using supplies she brought from Canada and then compiled into a photo album. She sent the album home to give her family a glimpse into the beginnings of her and James’s life in China.

</text>
