The festivals ran for 15 years (1963-1980, with gaps in 1970, 1976, and 1979), transforming from intimate experimental music concerts into massive public spectacles that helped establish performance art, video art, Fluxus, and happenings as legitimate art forms in the United States. Title A name given to the resource 14th NY Avant Garde Festival Cambridge Description An account of the resource Poster for the 15th Annual Avant Garde Festival, organized and directed by Charlotte Moorman and held in conjunction with the Cambridge River Festival on the Charles River, Massachusetts, on 20 May 1978. The event brought together artists and performers from New York and Cambridge. The poster features a vivid, multicolored design combining photographic collage, painterly overlays, and bold typography. This edition marked the final large-scale iteration of Moorman’s festival.
