The festivals ran for 15 years (1963-1980, with gaps in 1970, 1976, and 1979), transforming from intimate experimental music concerts into massive public spectacles that helped establish performance art, video art, Fluxus, and happenings as legitimate art forms in the United States. Title A name given to the resource 10th annual NY Avant Garde Festival -Grand central Description An account of the resource Poster announcing the tenth Festival, held in Grand Central Station on 20 Penn Central baggage cars on December 9, 1973. The poster features Jim McWilliams's graphic design using train imagery. Multiple photographs of Penn Central baggage cars and railway tracks are arranged alongside large orange/red text and participant lists run in columns along the sides. The festival transformed twenty Penn Central railroad baggage cars into individual performance and installation spaces within Grand Central Terminal.
