<text>Gioachino Rossini was one of the most popular Italian opera composers of the 19th-century, and his influence eclipsed the work of subsequent composers for many years to come. Rossini died near Paris in 1868 and was buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery (his remains were eventually moved to Florence). This item, recently acquired by the library and reproduced here since it is too large for display at 34” by 48”, is a poster calling attention to an upcoming memorial service for Rossini in his birthplace of Pesaro. It features the names of many musicians as well as artistic and academic societies whose collective efforts coalesced in a fitting celebration of one of their countrymen.</text>
