UNE FOURCHETTE EN PAPIER
A paper fork
Title
UNE FOURCHETTE EN PAPIER
A paper fork
A paper fork
Description
A cream card bearing only the word FOURCHETTE (fork) in bold sans-serif type. This is the paper fork of the manifest title, in which language substitutes entirely for the physical object it names. Formally consistent with George Brecht's Water Yam event score cards in format and typography. Operates within the Magrittian tradition of the word as surrogate for the thing, and within Ben Vautier's practice of the printed word as artwork.
Creator
Anonymous, possibly George Maciunas or George Brecht
Relation
Relates to George Brecht's Water Yam (1963); to Ben Vautier's text-based practice; thematically paired with the Spoerri futur tableau piège trivet
Format
Small offset-printed cream card; single word "FOURCHETTE" in bold sans-serif capitals, centred
Type
Printed matter; artist multiple; word card; conceptual object
