Boycott National Post button
Title
Boycott National Post button
Subject
Created for the Calgary Herald strike that started on November 8, 1999 and ended June 30, 2000. The Herald was acquired by Conrad Black's media company Hollinger in 1996. Frustrated with the changes brought on through this leadership change, the writers and photographers unionized in 1998, joining the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (Local 115-A) and the Graphic Communications International Union (Local 34-M), respectively. On May 1, 2000, supporters visited major airports across Canada to distribute leaflets and buttons to travelers, asking them to boycott the National Post. The National Post was formed by Conrad Black and other Hollinger newspapers, like the Herald, were used to fund this paper.
