Description
Promotional poster for the Festival of the Avant Garde, presented by Norman J. Seaman in association with Charlotte Moorman, held at The Central Park Conservatory Pond, New York, September 9, 1966. The festival featured an extensive roster of avant-garde composers, musicians, and artists, continuing the interdisciplinary tradition of previous years. Participants included David Behrman, Robert Breer, Earle Brown, Bill Dixon, Jacob Glick, Don Heckman, Al Hansen, Dick Higgins, Joe Jones, Allan Kaprow, Kenji Kobayashi, Charlotte Moorman, Max Neuhaus, Nam June Paik, Benjamin Patterson, and Emmett Williams . The poster follows the signature-based typographic design of earlier festival editions, with artist names vertically arranged down the center in facsimile script. Performances were staged across several evenings at Judson Hall and related venues.
