"But Wait!" Stills From a Film
By Sophia Jaworski
"But Wait" is an experimental media film which uses found footage and glitch art to reflect on how perceptions of time, space, and relationality have shifted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The viewer is sent through a montage of dream-like scenes which provoke tensions between domestic normativity, desires for escapism through capitalist consumption and tourism, scenes of essential workers being sanitized in misting tunnels, dissociation, and fantasies of new forms of care.
The film asks the viewer to critically reflect on their own positionality and forms of nostalgia which come up in response to the images. A ruler measures the 6 foot social distancing rule throughout. The film finishes with a soundscape recorded during the daily celebration many cities around the world do at 7pm to thank essential workers.
