25 July 1952: Memorandum for the Prime Minister
Escott Reid, Acting Under-Secretary of State for External Affairs, writes to Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent about the “Defence Policy and Global Strategy” paper released by the United Kingdom. Among other “modifications to policy,” the paper proposes a tripartite body for the purpose of “global planning on a world-wide scale.” Reid writes that “a number of the suggested modifications […] will have a bearing on Canadian interests,” paving the way for future discussion of the report within the Canadian government.
