“I wanted to explore what it means to have a family -- do they have to be blood? I also wanted to explore race, but not explore race. But I bring it down to a much more personal story. Something bad happens to you, you have a choice: Do you become bitter or do you change? There is the black, Canadian immigrant thing, but the biggest focus of the film is the characters' [humanity]” – Clement Virgo (Peranson, 2001)

Revisiting themes explored within Virgo’s award-winning 1993 short Save My Lost Nigga Soul, this feature explores the “tale of two brothers who take care of each other after their mother murders their father” (Tillson, 2001).  Nominated for eight Genie Awards (now Canadian Screen Awards), including Best Motion Picture, Love Come Down won three: Best Overall Sound, Best Sound Editing, and Best Supporting Actor (for Martin Cummins). The film made its international premiere at the Berlinale before screening at many notable festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival and San Jose’s Cinequest; in the latter, it screened as part of the “Black Mavericks” series (Peranson, 2001).
