Dental Hygiene
Dental nurses and dental hygienists have conducted or taken part in research and published their findings since the field first became professionally organized in the 1920s. In 1966, the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association established a journal called The Canadian Dental Hygienist (9). The title was subsequently changed to Probe from 1986 to 2004 (10). In 2005, the journal was relaunched as a peer-reviewed publication with a new name: Canadian Journal of Dental Hygiene (C.J.D.H.) (11). Dental Hygienists and other oral health professionals continue to advocate for oral health equality and better informed policy through research and publication. The C.J.D.H. is peer-reviewed and is indexed in CINAHL, EBSCOhost, Gale, MEDLINE, ProQuest and Scopus (11).
The alumni of our school (1919 to 2004) were key players in the organization of the dental nursing and the dental hygiene professions, and this is reflected in the professional publications.
