31 October 1957: US Press Report on the Development of Atomic Weapons

In October of 1957, Canada's involvement in the production of nuclear weapons became an issue of debate after the New York Times published a story on Anglo-American cooperation, speculating that Canada might also participate. These documents show the back and forth between what was being reported on in the press and what was being debated in the House of Commons discussions. In this instance, Canadian participation in the production of atomic weapons is denied, but affirms their status as a “friendly nation” with whom the United States and the United Kingdom would consult.
