Dental Prosthesis in the Modern Period: Europe
Dentistry was neglected in the middle ages as was the case with many sciences. As a result, rudimentary dentistry was instead practiced by tradesman such as barbers, jewelers and blacksmiths. Though progress was largely stagnant and previous dentistry knowledge was lost, the science eventually saw a renaissance in early modern Europe. This revival included a renewed focus on dental prosthesis in Europeon countries such as France, the British Isles, and Germany. (1)
