John Anderson Galbraith (1846-1914)
John Anderson Galbraith was one of nine applicants for the role of the first Professor of Engineering at the new School of Practical Science (SPS) when it opened in 1878. He had completed a BA and MA at University College and had ten years experience as a practicing engineer. Galbraith was appointed to the position in September 1878 and would later go on to serve as Principal of SPS and then Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science of Engineering until his death in 1914. [3]
